Sugar

Refined white sugar: You probably know this already, but it’s worth repeating. Refined white sugar is completely stripped of all nutritional value, and provides only empty calories. Furthermore, more than 65 percent of the white sugar available commercially is made from GMO sugar beets. Avoid it at all costs!
Brown sugar: Commercial brown sugar is nothing more than refined white sugar with some molasses added back in for color and flavor. Don’t be fooled by the color or claims. It’s just as bad.
Evaporated cane juice: Made from sugar cane (as opposed to sugar beets), evaporated cane juice is slightly less refined than white sugar, and therefore retains more color, flavor, and nutrients from the sugar cane. But really the only difference between commercial evaporated cane juice and white sugar is that the former goes through one less step of refinement.
Raw organic cane sugar: This type of sugar is less processed than refined white sugar, and still contains some of the original nutrients present in cane juice. These include amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and even some antioxidants. Because it’s organic, you also won’t be exposed to the pesticides present in commercially grown sugar. So, while obviously a better choice than refined white sugar, remember that it’s still sugr and should be consumed in minimal amounts.
Coconut sugar: Coconut sugar is harvested from the sap of the coconut plant through a very natural process of extracting the juice, and then allowing the water to evaporate. Process-wise, it is one of the most sustainable methods of sugar production, and the product also contains a small amount of fiber and other nutrients. Coconut also contains a lower percentage of fructose than the other sugars listed, which perhaps makes it slightly healthier than the other options.
Honey: Honey contains a concentrated dose of vitamins, minerals and nutrients that nourish and re-vitalize your body. And it possesses unique antimicrobial properties that help you fight off infections. Throughout history, honey has been used to treat coughs, wounds, indigestion, skin infections, fatigue, flu, burns and more.

Let food be thy medicine

Let food be thy medicine. There is no greater remedy for one 's body than eating truly fresh fruits and vegetables.

A diet rich in vegetables and fruits can lower blood pressure, reduce risk of heart disease and stroke, prevent some types of cancer, lower risk of eye and digestive problems, and have a positive effect upon blood sugar which can help keep appetite in check.

Keep fruits where you can see it. That way you will be more likely to eat it.

Always remember health is priceless.

MATCHA TEA

MATCHA TEA

I want to talk about one of my favourite teas, matcha tea. Matcha tea is a type of green tea, but matcha tea power is super because entire leaves are dissolved in water rather than steeped in bags. So instead of throwing away the leaves, you ingest all the antioxidant powers, the fibers and nutrients that the leaves offer.

It is loaded with polyphenols like flavonoids and catechin that can reduce the formation of free radicals in the body, protecting cells and molecules from damage. these free radicals are known to play a role in ageing and all sorts of diseases. Studies show that matcha tea contains more than 137 times more antioxidants that ordinary green tea. Matcha also contains as much as 70 times more antioxidants as is present in spinach.  Matcha tea contains a unique, potent class of antioxidant known as catechins, which aren’t found in other foods. In particular, the catechin EGCg (epigallocatechin gallate) provides potent cancer-fighting properties.

EGCG also helps the body break down calories in order to ensure that you stay slim, healthy and away from all the health complications associated with excess body weight. This antioxidant has also been shown to slow down or completely stop the growth of cancerous cells in the body.
Matcha tea calms the body and stabilizes your moods while at the same time keeping you alert and focused. The alertness caused by matcha tea can be attributed to its caffeine content.

Matcha tea has also been known to promote longevity, prevent cancer, lower LDL ''bad'' cholesterol, detoxify naturally and give energy.

Finally, this amazing tea has been shown to greatly boost your immune system. A daily intake of at least a cup will ensure that you keep your medical expenses and hospital visits to an absolute minimum.
The above information shows that matcha tea is not only healthy, but it is also superior to other types of tea when it comes to keeping you alive, healthy and happy.

3-DAY JUICE DETOX

I just finished a 3 day detox and I am feeling so good so I decided to share it with you guys. A 3 day detox is something I do twice a year, after Christmas and summer holiday.
When you do a detox, you remove toxins from your body. These toxins exist everywhere including in the air we breathe, the food we eat and the medications we take.
When we juice, our body gains the nutrient in liquid form, the juice contains the fibre that feed our body and then helps to flush out all the rubbish in our body. But remember our body detoxifies itself and not the juice but it requires the right tool to do that. A detox cleanse can be very beneficial and can make you feel a lot healthier. But you need a good program by a professional. I use Jason Vale's 3 day detox program. I love his detox program and I have been using it for over 6 years now.
A detox done wrong will just drain your body of energy, while a detox done right result in higher energy levels and an increased sense of wellness.
I make my juice myself, that way I know exactly what I am taking, but if you think you can't do that yourself, order pre-made juices from a reputable juicing company. Never the packaged juice from shops which have been pasteurised. According to Jason Vale, try to keep it simple, be mentally and physically prepared, have all your fruits and vegetables ready before starting.
After completing a good detox you get rid of waste, your body will be dairy free, junk free, sugar free and free of so many rubbish.
Some benefits of a good detox are;
  • Increase energy level
  • Strenghten immune system
  • Increase mental focus
  • Weight-loss
  • Clearer skin and shinier hair
  • Improve skin tone
  • Brighter eyes

Take it from me, I have done it several times and each time I do it I notice all these changes and because of that,I have decided to go raw till 6pm most of the time.

As Jack Lalanne said, ''Imagine regular exercise and nutritious food as 'nature's broom' gently sweeping out your intestinal tract.'' Cleanliness of the bowels results in proper elimination, quickly manifesting itself in all the cells of the body.

Doing a detox is completely worth it. As I said earlier, follow a program. There are so many good ones out there, personally I use Jason Vale's and will strongly recommend it.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.

Nutrition is the foundation of our health.
According to Dr Linus Pauling, ''Optimum nutrition is the medicine of tomorrow''
Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food.

Because we are what we eat we can literally transform our bodies and minds  by choosing a healthy diet. Human body has an innate capacity for self-healing.
According to Carina Norris, ''Food has a huge bearing on how you feel right now, and also your long term health. Get it right, and you enjoy plenty of energy and reduce risk of illnesses, from coughs and sniffles to serious conditions like heart disease and cancer. Get it wrong, and you'll feel rough, and your body will feel old before its time.''
Your body is a finely tuned vehicle, give it good fuel and it will take you places. If we feed our bodies junk, we will feel like junk and perform like junk

Always remember,
Every 28 days, your skin replaces itself.
Your Liver, 5 months
Your bones, 10 years.
Your body makes these new cells from the food you eat. What you eat literally becomes you, you have a chance in what you are made of.

Recipe - Quinoa with Vegetables

Quinoa is an amazing superfood which has completely replaced rice for me. Quinoa is one of the most protein-rich foods we can eat, containing all nine essential amino acids and it contains almost twice as much fiber as most other grains. It is a great alternative for rice and my kids love it.

Total Time: Prep: 20 min. Cook: 20 min. (Serves 4)

Ingredients
200g quinoa
1 tbsp olive oil
1 red onion (Chopped)
2 peppers (red, green, yellow or mixture)
1 garlic clove
200g Chicken Breast (Diced)
100g Mixed Vegetables
Seasoning (Knorr cube, Thyme, Tumeric)

Recipe
1. Cook the quinoa following pack instructions

2. Chop the vegetables and put aside

3. In a Wok, heat up the oil and add the chicken. Stir fry till cooked and stir in the onions and garlic.

4. Cook until the garlic and onion softens (about 2 minutes).

5. Add the peppers, and vegetables; continue cooking until they soften (about 5 minutes). Season and cook for 1 minute more, then stir in the cooked quinoa. Serve hot or cold

(Add Chili pepper for spicy kick)

Little tip that works.

Eating 5 to 6 times a day is healthier than the usual 3 square meals a day. According to Fabry, an english researcher in 1964 found that eating one-sixth of your food six times  a day rather than one-third three times will help in weight loss, improves cholesterol numbers and glucose tolerance. Not eating for a number of hours triggers the starvation mechanism and that causes your body to preserve body fat.So please eat!

Benefits of Watermelon

(Source: stylecraze.com)

It is very good to start your day with a very juicy fruit like watermelon. I really love starting my busy day with this wonderful juicy fruit. I call it power house because the health benefits are so many. It is an excellent and natural source of most powerful antioxidant, vitamin C, A, B, B6,B1 to protect us from diseases. The antioxidants can also reduce the risk of colon cancer, asthma, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and prostate cancer. The benefits are so many.
When the heat of summer tires us with thirst, eating watermelon is a safe alternative to taking energy drinks.  Nothing can be more satisfactory on a hot, dusty day than a crisp, juicy slice of watermelon.
